ALVA E. SVEDBERG

Alva E. Svedberg, 88, originally of Larimore, ND passed away on Friday, December 28, 2012 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND, after a hard fought battle with Congestive Heart Failure.
Alva Elaine Trosen was born October 30, 1924 in Inkster, ND. She was the daughter of Ferd and Dora (Dowhower) Trosen, and sister to Della. Alva lived in Arvilla, ND and graduated from Larimore High School in 1942. She moved to Chicago with her parents and worked as a sales clerk and when the love of her life, Marvin A. Svedberg enlisted in the Marines, she went to work in the American Defense Plant as a riveter. She married Marvin on November 13, 1943 in San Diego, CA. They lived in Seattle, WA before moving back to ND in 1948, where Alva worked in the Larimore Johnson’s store as a clerk and was once named “Cheerful person of the week” by Marilyn Hagerty.
Alva’s roll in life was that of a dutiful daughter, cousin, sweet sister, loving wife, caring mother, darling daughter-in-law, amazing aunt, compassionate sister-in-law, fantastic friend, and on the odd occasion, a pretty fantastic parts runner for her hubby and the “Redi Mix”. She was also a 4-H leader, Sunday school teacher, Ruth circle member and the best “Room Mother” a girl could ever have. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the highlight of her life. She was an active member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Larimore, ND.
Alva is survived by her daughters: Suzy (Lin) Safford, Charlestown, RI and Cheri (Dennis) Tretter of East Grand Forks, MN. Grandchildren: Lin Safford and Chris Safford, of Charlestown, RI; Amanda (Brian) Hoy of Fargo, ND and Tyler Tretter and Troy Tretter of East Grand Forks, MN. Great-grandsons: Dylan Safford and Landon Hoy, Niece: Judy McCabe, several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, cousins, nieces, nephews, and her “adopted” family the Tretters. All of these people held a special place in her great big heart. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and sister Della McCabe.
