Anton “Tony” H. Wixo
Anton “Tony” H. Wixo, age 78, of West Fargo, ND, passed away on Monday, September 10, 2018 at Sheyenne Crossing Care Center in West Fargo.
Tony was born on February 24 th , 1940 to Jens and Amie (Lien) Wixo at Lakota Hospital. He was raised on his parent’s farm in rural Niagara, North Dakota where he fell in love with farming. Tony graduated from Larimore High School in 1958, then attended Mayville State Teachers College, after which he started farming with his father on their family farm. Tony later purchased the land from his father and began his farming and ranching career. In 1967, he married the love of his life Sylvia Joy Zahn and they had two children together, Anton (Tony) Ernest Wixo and Angela Wixo Hayes. Throughout his life, Tony participated in many organizations such as the Larimore School Board, the Larimore Farmers Elevator (president), the Grand Forks-Nelson County Farmers Union, the National Farmer’s Organization (president), the Nelson County Hospital Board, and the Region 6 Arabian Horse Association (president). He was also a member of the Larimore rural church board and the North Dakota Silver Haired Legislative Assembly which he served in for 12 years and was the vice president for 6. In 1984, Tony retired from farming and started working for the North Dakota Agriculture Mediation Service and the Credit Review Board. He retired after 27 years of service and was honored throughout that time with many employee recognitions. In retirement, Tony and his wife Sylvia moved to West Fargo and enjoyed many years of watching their grandchildren participate in sports and school activities. He was very proud of the family he created and loved them very much.
Tony is preceded in death by both of his parents, Jens and Amie Wixo, his brother Jerome Wixo, his nephew Tom Hanson, and his sister Carol Hanson. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Sylvia Wixo, their children Tony Wixo (Sabrina), Angela Hayes (Eric) and John Mortenson (Becky), his brother in law Ron Hanson, his sister in law Jean Wixo, his brother Al Wixo (Vera), several nieces and nephews, and his grandchildren, Brandon Wixo, Sadie Hayes, Summer Hayes, Elijah Hayes, Ava Wixo, Caden Wixo, Nicholas Mortenson, Thomas Mortenson, Gerard Mortenson and great granddaughter Berkleigh Mortenson.
Tony will be buried at Bellevue Cemetery, Larimore following his funeral on Friday, September 14 th at 10 AM at Bethel Lutheran Church, rural Larimore North Dakota. Visitation is one hour prior to the service at Bethel at 9 AM. A family service will be held Thursday, September 13th at 7 PM at Bakke Funeral Home, Larimore with visitation starting at 6 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for individuals to consider making a blood donation at their local Blood Bank or to become regular donors. Generous blood donations like these allowed for Tony to remain comfortable these past 5 years of life through blood transfusions.
