Henry Arvil Brekke, 89, Park River (formerly Grand Forks, Inkster, and Grafton), died on Monday, Jan. 12, 2015 in the First Care Health Center, Park River.
Arvil was born Nov. 11, 1925, to John and Tilda (Strand) Brekke, in Grafton, ND., where he grew up. He attended the Sinkler School in rural Grafton. He married Gloria Gendreau on Oct. 20, 1950 in Olga, ND. Arvil served as a Corporal in the U.S. Infantry during the Korean War where he received a Purple Heart for Wounds Received in Action. Arvil and Gloria moved from Grafton to their farm in Inkster, ND where they happily resided for many years raising livestock and small grains.
He is survived by his brother, Elton (Eileen) Brekke, Yuma, AZ; nephew Elton (Karen) Brekke, Grand Forks, ND; nieces Leslie Brekke, Tucson, AZ, Carol Brekke, Grafton, ND, Jenny (Greg) Baumgartner, Tucson, AZ, Shelly (Jerry) Bell, Dodge Center, MN; a great niece, and four great nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; infant daughter, Mary Beth; and sister, Lillian Larson.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday., Jan. 17 at Bakke Funeral Home, Larimore, ND Visitation one hour prior to the service.
Burial will be in St. Mark’s Cemetery of Conway, ND.
Military Honors by the North Dakota National Guard Honor Team.
