Avis Jehlicka

Avis (Lindly) Jehlicka, age 88 of Fordville, ND passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 18 ^th , 2021, at the Park River Good Samaritan Center.

Avis Colleen Jehlicka was born March 22 ^nd , 1933, to the late James and Hildur Lindly. She lived on a farm near Dahlen, ND, where she attended her first seven years of school at Elkmount #90. Her family then moved into Dahlen, where she attended school through the 8 ^th grade. Avis was united in marriage to William (Billy) Jehlicka on November 18 ^th , 1955, at the parsonage in Petersburg, ND. The couple made their home in Fordville, ND. Avis had two children: Melanie Pokrzywinski and Randy Jehlicka. She worked in Potatoes for 19 years and spent three years working at the Life Skills and Transition Center in Grafton, ND. Over the years she became a grandmother to six beautiful grandkids and six great-grandchildren. She moved to the Park River Good Samaritan Center in 2018. Her family was her world. She enjoyed attending sporting events and anything her grandchildren or great-grandchildren participated in. Playing bingo and coffee hour were her favorite pastimes at the nursing home. Avis was well-known for her feisty nature and tell-it-like-it-is attitude.

She is survived by her children: Melanie (Jim) Pokrzywinski, Lankin, ND; Randy (Shannon) Jehlicka, Fordville, ND: 6 grandchildren: Brad (Nikki) Pokrzywinski, Bismarck, ND; Kyann (Darin) Lee, Park River, ND; Hope Jehlicka (Adam Faul), Grand Forks, ND; Jace Jehlicka, Fordville, ND; Samantha (Alex) Berry, Mayville, ND; Cody (Lexi) Dravland, Owatonna, MN: 6 great grandchildren: Bentley, Tenley, and Miley Pokrzywinski, Bismarck, ND; Kain and Lainey Lee, Park River, ND; Camden Berry, Mayville, ND: Sister Kathleen, Grand Forks, ND: 2 sisters-in-law: Edith Dub, Grand Forks, ND; Hermina Jehlicka, Colorado: Brother-in-law Paul (Rita) Jehlicka, Grand Forks, ND; as well as several other family members. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Billy, brother Lyle, sister Grace, infant sister, daughter-in-law Bridgette, and brother-in-law Gillman.

A graveside service for family will be Monday, May 24 ^th , 2021, at 10:30 am at the Oak Grove Cemetery, Fordville, ND. A celebration of Avis’ life will follow at the home of Randy and Shannon Jehlicka.
