Beatrice "Beatty" Hemmingsen

Beatrice “Beatty” Hemmingsen, age 88, formerly of Grand Forks, ND and McCanna, ND, passed away Tuesday, March 31, 2020 at Good Samaritan Society-Larimore, ND.

Beatrice was born July 5, 1931 in Niagara, ND the daughter of Herbert and Hulda (Plantiko) Voelker.  She attended school at Niagara and Aakers Business College.  Beatrice married Donald Hemmingsen on August 6, 1950 at St. Andrews Lutheran Church in Niagara.  The couple lived and farmed in the McCanna area until their retirement.

Beatrice enjoyed needlework, baking, reading, and bowling. She was an active member of the Elm Grove Lutheran Church.

Surviving members of her family include daughters:  Ruth (Wendel) VanWechel, Mayville; Yvonne (Richard) Woodbeck, Grand Forks; son John (Kathy) Hemmingsen, Larimore; brother:  Herb (Ellen) Voelker, Grand Forks; “special sister”: Karen Bornsen, Fort Worth, TX; 7 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Donald, parents Herbert and Hulda Voelker, stepmother Clara Voelker and sister Maxine Hillestad.

Private Family Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 30, 2020 at Elm Grove Lutheran Church of rural McCanna, ND.

Interment will take place in Elm Grove Church Cemetery.
