Grand Forks

Betty Jean (Dau) Anderson, passed away on Thursday, October 13, 2022 at the age of 94, in Grand Forks, Valley Senior Living on 42 nd , Heartland neighborhood with family at her side.

Betty was born May 9, 1928 to Frank and Lena Dau, the last of 7 children.  She called the Orr, ND area home during her childhood.

On December 1, 1945 she married Gaylord (Bud) Anderson and became a farmwife in the Gilby-Orr area.  It wasn’t unusual to see her driving the grain truck and passing out cookies to other drivers in line at the elevator during harvest.  Bud and Betty had 3 children: Dan, Joan and Janelle.

Besides farm work and raising 3 children, she could be found working at the S & H gift store in Grand Forks, US Post Office in McCanna and Orr, driving the van for Midway School, or working at the preschool in Gilby.  Betty enjoyed bowling on a league in Larimore, her Homemakers club and gardening; but the joy of her life was her grand and great-grandchildren.

Betty is survived by 2 of her 3 children Dan (Deb) Anderson, Grand Forks; Joan (Greg) McMahon, Larimore; son-in-law Randy Eken, Alexandria, MN; grandchildren Jennifer (Wes) Henry, Fargo; Tiffany (Sean) Johnson, Grand Forks; Jeff McMahon, Becker, MN; Meghan St. Peter, Bemidji; Paul (Amy) McMahon, Thornton, Co; Aaron (Sara) Eken, White Bear Township, MN; Joshua (Molly) Eken, Alexandria, MN; 22 great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law Aurel Wood, Grand Forks.

She was preceded in death by her husband Gaylord (Bud) in 1991, a daughter Janelle Eken in 2019, a grandson Jeremy in 2002, all 6 of her brothers and sisters and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, as well as her parents.

The FUNERAL SERVICE will be Sunday, October 16 at 2 p.m. in the Havig-Heen Auditorium Chapel at Valley Senior Living on 42 nd .  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.  BURIAL will be in Bellevue Cemetery, Larimore.
