Boyd Haugen

February 19, 1925 — May 16, 2016

Boyd Olin Haugen, age 91, of Larimore, ND, passed away on Monday, May 16, 2016 at the Good Samaritan Center.

Boyd was born February 19, 1925 in Gilby, North Dakota, to Peter and Jesse (Lund) Haugen. He graduated from Gilby High School in 1944 and then went on to attend North Dakota State School of Science from which he graduated with a degree in Mechanics Boyd and his brother Orvis started farming together doing business as Haugen Farms in 1955.

Boyd was a loving and faithful husband to Helen (Menke) Hoffman, whom he married on January 12, 1973, and a caring and supportive father to his step-children Joan, Lawrence “Butch”, John, and Mary. Boyd was a lifelong member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Honeyford, ND and was a light to all who knew him, often smiling and never complaining.


Boyd is survived by sisters Margaret (Haugen) Garrett of Orangevale, CA and Kathryn (Bob) Ersland of Kenyon, MN; his brother Orvis (June) Haugen of Gilby, ND; step-children Joan Mondry of Grand Forks, ND, Mary Hoppe of Grand Forks, ND, John (Kirsten) Hoffman of Hartford, SD; daughter-in-law, Becky Hoffman of Escondido, CA; 9 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.

Boyd was preceded in death by his wife Helen; step-son Lawrence “Butch” Hoffman; son-in-law James Hoppe; sister and brother-in-law, Eleanor and Joe Tupa; and sister and brother-in-law Meriel and Alph Overby; and brother-in-law Dean Garrett.

Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, May 23, 2016 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Honeyford, ND with a funeral service following at 11:00 a.m.

INTERMENT: St. Paul's Church Cemetery, Honeyford.
