Byron Tupa

Byron Lewis Tupa, 89, of Larimore, ND passed away September 14, 2022, at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, ND.  He was born December 30, 1932 in Regent, ND to John and Gladys (Carlson) Tupa.  He was raised in Regent and moved with his family to Larimore, ND where he attended Larimore High School.  He joined the US Air Force on January 8, 1952 and served during the Korean War/Conflict.  He was honorably discharged on December 20, 1955 and returned to North Dakota.

He married Betty Gilbertson and had two sons, Wade and Mitch.  Byron worked various jobs upon discharge from the service along with working for Vern Bentley as an electrician.  He ultimately purchased Bentley Electric and started Tupa Electric.  Byron worked as an electrician for many years and eventually retired in 1995 but was always willing to help out his sons.

He was a member of St. Stephen’s Catholic Church.  He was a member of the Larimore American Legion Post # 97 for many years and was recognized for his 50 years of membership on November 11, 2017.

He was so proud and supportive of his grandsons. He enjoyed attending their many sporting events.  His grandsons cherished any time they could spend with him and will forever treasure those times.  They especially enjoyed his stories and his quick-witted one liners.

Byron is survived by his sons, Wade Tupa, Larimore, ND and Mitch (Carla) Tupa, Larimore, ND and grandsons Jacob & Luke; his sister Geraldine, Lincoln, NE; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.  Byron was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Lon Tupa, sisters and brothers-in-law, Jane (Palmer) Ostlie, Nona (Max) Hurdelbrink, and Elaine (James) Hofer and brother-in-law Joseph D’Amico.

Visitation will be held from 9:30 – 10:30 am on Saturday, September 24, 2022 at St. Stephens Catholic Church, Larimore, North Dakota with a funeral mass at 10:30 am.  Interment will follow at Bellevue Cemetery, Larimore, North Dakota.
