Carol Tretter

Carol Ann (Nelson) Tretter, age 85, of Larimore, ND passed away peacefully surrounded by her family, on Friday evening October 11 ^th, 2019 at Valley Senior Living-Columbia in Grand Forks, ND. Carol was born on Feb.12, 1934 in Hope, ND the daughter of Bernard and Agnes (Johnson) Nelson. Carol attended school in a one room school in Hugo Township for 8 years, and 4 years at Hope High, Hope ND where she graduated in 1953.  Carol then attended Mayville State College and taught in a rural school house near Cooperstown, ND, and then later she was employed by the Larimore Elementary School for 34 years.

Carol was united in marriage to Henry Joseph Tretter on June 7, 1955 (Hope, ND) at St. Agatha’s Catholic Church.  After their marriage the couple lived near the Hope, ND area until moving to Larimore, ND in February 1957, were they raised their 5 children.

Carol is a member of St. Stephen’s Catholic Church, active in the Altar Society and taught Sunday school for many years. Carol loved her flower gardens, scrapbooking, pictures and having coffee with Janet Elfman and all her friends. She enjoyed crafting calendars and baking her famous apple turnovers and lefse’ for her grandchildren.  Carol was very proud of her 11 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. She loved attending as many activities as she could. But she really enjoyed having everyone at Grandma’s place.

Carol is survived by her 5 children; Daniel (Carla) Tretter, Larimore, ND, Dennis (Cheri) Tretter, East Grand Forks, MN, Duane (Kathy) Tretter, Watford City, ND, Doris (Andy) Heidt, Minot, ND & Dale (Sheila) Tretter, West Fargo, ND; 2 Brothers; David (Phyllis) Nelson, Devils Lake, ND & John Nelson, Hope, ND; 11 Grandchildren and  8  great grandchildren:  Benjamin Tretter , Nicholas (Lauren) Tretter, Amanda (Mark, Landon, Elsa) Hedstrom, Tyler (Emmalee, Teagan) Tretter, Troy (Kacie, Hayes) Tretter, Christopher (Dylan, Brayson) Heidt, Julia(Royce) Heidt, RachealAnn (Jake, Duke) Johnson, Kelsey Tretter(Jordan), Brianna Tretter(Marcus) , Logan (Samantha) Tretter.

Carol was preceded in death by loving Husband, Henry of 56 years, her parents, and her brother Don Nelson.

MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL:  10 a.m. Saturday, October 19, 2019 at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in Larimore.

VISITATION:  Friday, October 18 from 5-7 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service held in the Bakke Funeral Home of Larimore.  Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to the funeral in the church on Saturday.
