Charlene Johnson

Charlene Johnson, age 83 of Niagara, ND, passed away on Thursday, January 12, 2023 at the Nelson County Health Care Center in McVille, ND.

Charlene was born May 21, 1939 in Northwood, ND,  the daughter of Arthur and Pearl (Gustafson) Kroocmo.  She was raised and grew to womanhood at Orr, ND where she attended and graduated from Orr High School.

Charlene married Jerry Johnson on  January 26, 1958 in Crookston, MN.   The couple lived in Washington State from 1964 to 1971 when they returned to Niagara.  She was employed by the Simplot Company in Grand Forks, retiring in 2007.  Mr. Johnson preceded her in death on October 3, 2006.  She continued to make her home in Niagara until moving to the Nelson County Health Care Center in August, 2022.

Surviving members of her family include sons:  Shane (Sandy) Johnson, East Grand Forks and Dion (Lisa) Johnson, Grand Forks; daughters-in-law: Shirley Johnson, Grand Forks and Kim Johnson, East Grand Forks; 9 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sister: Elaine Grabanski, Orr; and brother-in-law: Lloyd (Dorcas) Schmidt, Oslo, MN, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; sons:  Randy, Brad and Ricky; her parents, and sisters: Dellene “Dinnie” Schmidt and Charlotte Schmidt.

FUNERAL SERVICES:  11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 17, 2023 in Elk Valley Lutheran Church, rural McCanna, ND.

VISITATION:  One hour prior to the service in the church.

INTERMENT:  Elk Valley Church Cemetery.
