Larimore

Cheryl Lynn (Mostad) Bauer, Larimore ND, passed away Monday, March 7 at the Valley Senior Living Center after a long illness.

Cheryl was born on November 18, 1946 in Saum, MN to Edwin and Elna (Nelson) Mostad. She graduated from Kelliher High School. She attended Bemidji State University, Valley City State University and Lake Region CC before earning a degree as a medical assistant.

On June 11 th , 1968, Cheryl married Robert (Bob) Bauer in Warba, MN. They lived in Minneapolis, Homestead, Fl, Grand Forks and Arvilla before finally settling in Larimore, ND in 1977 where they raised their three children, Jason (Jake), Nathan (Nate) and Benjamin (Ben).

Cheryl worked hard to provide for her family. She worked in the field during potato harvest and at the meat locker in Larimore. She was a fixture at the Coast to Coast for many years. Later, she worked as a medical assistant at the Larimore Good Samaritan Center and finally at Altru Hospital.

Cheryl loved nothing more than being with her family. Life was always an adventure, with frequent family trips all across the country and even the world. She was always supportive of her husband and children’s hobbies and activities including very loud band practices in the house. She rarely missed a child’s sporting event. She loved to be with family and friends and all who knew her will remember her laugh and her smile, both of which could be heard and seen from across the room. She also may have been known to dance on a table a time or two to embarrass her youngest son. She was not afraid to hop on a motorcycle, mini skirt and all, not having a clue how to actually drive it. This adventure ended 3 seconds after it began with Cheryl and the motorcycle bouncing off a pine tree, all within sight of her sons and several shocked grandsons!

Cheryl had a sign in the kitchen stating, “A woman’s place is in the kitchen, and she should go there right from work”.  While that clearly was meant as a jab at a dated way of thinking, Cheryl actually did this. Every night, after work, tired or not she cooked amazing meals and monster cookies and pies and birthday cakes.  She enjoyed Tuesday night golf league with her amazing friends. She spent many days in the summer camping and fishing with Bob at Stump Lake where children and grandchildren made countless memories.

In later years, Cheryl and Bob enjoyed winters in Yuma with Cheryl’s sisters and brothers. After Bob died in 2009, Cheryl spent her summers in the campground at Larimore Dam. She enjoyed the quiet time but she also enjoyed having the grandkids stay with her. According to the grandsons, some of their favorite memories involved these times with grandma spent fishing, going on nature walks and playing dominoes in the evening. Cheryl was a fierce competitor in dominoes and other card games! Above all, Cheryl was always known to be kind, inviting, loving and fun. She will be missed by all who knew her but she is now reunited with the love of her life, Bob.

Cheryl was preceded in death by her husband Bob, mother, Elna, father Edwin, brother Edsel (Gene) Mostad, sisters Donna Esterly, Arlene Mullens and Linda Bergren. She is survived by her three children Jake (Amy), Nate (Alana) and Ben (Jill), her brothers Dale (Kathy) Mostad, David (Betty) Mostad, sisters Janice Sievert, Maureen (Julian) Smischney, and grandchildren Quinn, Ian, Nathan, Noah, Nehemiah and Douglas.

A funeral service will be held at St. Stephens Catholic Church in Larimore, ND on March 19 th at 10:30 AM, with a visitation 1 hour prior, and food provided by the Altar Society following the service.
