Dennis Holweger

Dennis James Holweger was born July 21, 1940, in Northwood, ND to Julius and Mae (Larson) Holweger.

Dennis attended Grand Forks County Public School Pleasant View Townsip District 84 and then went to Larimore Public School, graduating in 1958.

Dennis farmed with his dad after graduation until fall, when he entered into the U.S. Army on September 3, 1958 and was honorably discharged on September 3, 1964. 173 rd Airborne Brigade Sky Diver.  “To Our Utmost” is their motto.

While in the service Dennis received the sharpshooter trophy, parachutist badge, and expert rifleman award.  He also was a karate student while overseas.

After the service Dennis continued to farm with his dad in rural Northwood,  Pleasant View Township.

Dennis married Judy Stimpert on September 21, 1962 in the Pleasant View Church, rural Emerado, ND and they lived in Avon Township for the remainder of his life. At one time they owned and operated the Emerado Standard Service Station in Emerado, ND.

For many years they raised potatoes and had a wash plant on the farmsite.  They provided potatoes to many of the local stores and also shipped out to different states.

Dennis also worked construction and received many safety awards.  He also taught snow cat safety at the Turtle River Park a few seasons. Dennis was a charter member and past president of the Arvilla Community Club.

In retirement Dennis raised potatoes and pumpkins having a site set up every fall at his brother’s place of business, Kenny’s Music Shop in Grand Forks.  He loved visiting with people.

Dennis was preceded in death by his beloved son, Bradley James Holweger on November 7, 2012; his parents; his sister, Karen Johnson; and his brother, Phillip Holweger.

Dennis is survived by his wife, Judy, his daughters, Barbara (Curtis) Huus, Hatton, ND; Beth Murphy (Dan), Utica KY; and Laura (Shane) Klindt, Belle Plaine KS; grandchildren: Sara (Kody) Huus Grandalen, Tiffany (Max) Huus Tangen, Spencer (Karissa Jerome) Huus, Zachary Holweger; Morgan Holweger; Alexandria Klindt and Brandon Klindt; great grandchildren: Layken Olivia Marie Strand, Harper Rae Huus, Reese Patricia Tangen, Madelyn Rebecca Huus, Brooks Tangen, Elliot Huus and baby Grandalen; his sister, Evan Rustan (Milo, deceased); his brothers, Julian Holweger and Kenny Holweger (Cindy).

Visitation will be on Thursday, March 10 th from 5 - 7 pm with a prayer service at 7:00 at Bakke Funeral Home in Larimore, ND.  A military service will be held in the summer.  He will be buried by his beloved son, Bradley, at the Pleasant view Cemetery, Rural Emerado, ND.

In lieu of flowers memorial may be given to Pleasant View Cemetery, Box 233, Hatton, ND 58240.

Dennis died at home on March 3, 2022 at the age of 81.
