Donald "Donnie" Hemmingsen

Donald “Donnie” Hemmingsen, age 85, formerly of Grand Forks, ND and McCanna, ND; passed away Wednesday, September 23, 2015 at Luther Memorial Home in Mayville, ND.
Donald was born November 14, 1929 at McCanna, the son of Frode and Cora (Nelson) Hemmingsen. He attended school at rural McCanna and the Park River Agricultural School. Donald married Beatrice “Beatty” Voelker on August 6, 1950 at St. Andrews Lutheran Church in Niagara. The couple lived and farmed in the McCanna area until their retirement. In August they celebrated 65 years of marriage.
Donald enjoyed flying, curling, golfing, singing, horseback riding and woodworking. He was an active member of Elm Grove Lutheran Church and served on the Larimore Airport Authority Board, Larimore School Board and the Niagara Township Board. He was also a member of the Larimore Community Entertainers and the Bachelors Grove Saddle Club.
Surviving members of his family include his wife: Beatrice of 65 years; daughters: Ruth (Wendel) VanWechel, Mayville; Yvonne (Richard) Woodbeck, Grand Forks; son: John (Kathy) Hemmingsen, Larimore; Brother: Jim (Bev) Hemmingsen, Larimore; 7 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents Frode and Cora Hemmingsen; infant sister Ruth Marie and grandparents J.P. and Bertha Hemmingsen.

FUNERAL SERVICES: 10:30 a.m. Monday, September 28, 2015 at Elm Grove Lutheran Church of rural McCanna, ND.
VISITATION: Sunday, September 27 from 4-6 p.m. with a 6 p.m. Prayer Service held at the Bakke Funeral Home in Larimore, ND. Visitation will also be for one hour prior to the service in the church Monday.
INTERMENT: Elm Grove Church Cemetery, rural McCanna.
