Donald Albert Hunter 69 of Crookston, Mn, formerly of Gilby, ND passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday June 6, 2021.

Donnie was born September 30,1951 to Dennis and Doris Hunter.  He attended Midway School, and graduated in 1969. After high school, he attended Mayville State College for a short time and was drafted into the US Army and served in Germany with the artillery division.  After being discharged from the service he returned to the Gilby area and started working for Western Potato Company and stayed on thru International Co-op. Donnie married Shelly Otmar in January of 1978 and had the joy of raising three sons. Donnie stayed and worked when Simplot took over the Company in June of 1981. The family  transferred to Boise, Idaho for a few years before returning home to Grand Forks.  Donnie then moved to Crookston, MN where he married Joan Akiyama, they enjoyed spending time with their family, friends, and Bernese Mountain dogs. Don also loved to cook, he enjoyed trying new recipes and was mastering his bbq smoker.  Donnie retired from Simplot as the Plant Technical Analyst in June 2016. Donnie spent his first winter of retirement in his camper in Utah, Nevada and Arizona and met many new friends.  He spent his summers camping at Itaska State park with man's best friend Choppa. Donnie also enjoyed spending his retirement at the lake relaxing, fishing with his sons, and playing with his granddaughters.

Donnie is survived by his three sons, Justin(Tessa & granddaughters Hadley & Mia) Hunter, Detroit Lakes, MN, Jason(Dana) Hunter, Grand Forks, ND, and Jeff Hunter, Crookston, as well as his four sisters, Darlene Hughes, Anchorage, AK, Debbie(Mike) Close, Gilby, ND, Diane(David) Carlson, Inkster, ND, Denelle(Scott)Hunter and his brother Darrin Hunter also of Gilby, and many nieces and nephews.

Donnie was preceded in death by all his grandparents, his parents and his sister Denise Hunter, many aunts & uncles.

FUNERAL SERVICES:  Gilby Church Service Sunday June 13, 2021 at 2:00 pm

and interment at Gilby Cemetery following service
