Donald Meland

Donald L. Meland, age 90, of Larimore, ND, entered into his heavenly home on January 12, 2016 with loved ones by his side. He was born on May 18, 1925 to Nils and Marie Meland in Parshall ND.

He was a WW II Veteran serving in the Army Air Corp from 1943-1947. His post war career was in the retail lumber business. He started the Meland Lumber Company in 1958.

In 1959 he along with 6 others started the Larimore Golf Club, something he was very proud of. During his life he belonged to the Lions Club, American Legion, Commercial Club, and Our Savior's Lutheran Church.

He sold his lumber yard and retired in April of 1983 spending many winters in Mesa, AZ. Throughout his life he demonstrated his sense of humor to virtually everyone.

Don is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Ardell, son-in-law Curt Schmidt, and a brother Wes Meland. Don is survived by his 4 children, Sandy (Phil) Capps, AZ, Ken Meland, UT, Susie (Terry) Petsinger, ND and Shari (Barry) Hanson, ND. Grandchildren are Kari, Craig, Samantha, Jessica, Terra, Taylor, Jared, Jenna and 12 great grandchildren. Surviving siblings: Arline, Muriel, Verna, Noren, Rueben, and June.

The family has great appreciation for his special companion Irene .

Funeral services will be Friday, January 15 at 1:00 p.m. in the Good Samaritan Chapel in Larimore ND

Burial with military honors will be scheduled in the spring in Bellevue Cemetery, Larimore.
