Doreen S. Bakke

Doreen S. Bakke, age 88, of Larimore, ND passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2011 at the Larimore Good Samaritan Center.

Doreen was born on July 20, 1922 at rural Northwood, ND the daughter of Henry and Tulia Skjei Christianson. She received Holy Baptism by her Grandfather, Rev. Thomas Skjei. When she was three years old, her family moved to Larimore to live in the same house where she has lived since. Doreen was confirmed in her Christian faith at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. She received her public education and grew to womanhood in Larimore.

Doreen was united in marriage to Vance A. Bakke at Larimore in 1940. After their marriage, she remained in Larimore while Vance served in the U.S. Army during World War Two. After Vance’ military discharge, they continued to live in Larimore where they raised their family. In later years, they enjoyed their two annual trips, one to Vance’s Army reunion, and the other to the North Dakota Firemen’s Convention. Vance passed away on February 28, 2009.

Doreen always appreciated and enjoyed a personal visit by anyone to her home, or to have a conversation with someone on the telephone.

Doreen is survived by her children: Jerry (Vicky) Bakke of Larimore, Marilyn (Gary) Thorsell of Larimore, David (Melissa) Bakke of Larimore; her grandchildren: Vance J. (Kelly) Bakke, Stacy Bakke, Lisa (Joe) Davis, Lana (Matthew) Wallis, Jason (Lisa) Bakke, Daren Thorsell, Craig (Jana) Thorsell, Mark (Amy) Thorsell, Steven Thorsell, Paul Bakke, Sarah (Jeff) Hovde, and Andrew Bakke; Sixteen great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews,

Doreen was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, grandson: Michael Thorsell, sister: Eunice Frank, brothers: Glenn, Orian, and Chauncey.

FUNERAL SERVICES will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 17 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Larimore.

INTERMENT: Bellevue Cemetery, Larimore

VISITATION: 2-4 p.m. on Sunday January 16 with a 4 p.m. prayer service in the Bakke Funeral Home of Larimore. Visitation will also be one hour prior to the funeral in the church.

Officiating will be Rev. Daniel Carlson, with Mrs. Dolores Mutch as the organist. Casket bearers will be Vance J. Bakke, Stacy Bakke, Jason Bakke, Daren Thorsell, Craig Thorsell, Mark Thorsell, Steven Thorsell, and Paul Bakke. Honorary pallbearers will be Andrew Bakke, Lisa Davis, Lana Wallis, Sarah Hovde, and all of her Great Grandchildren.
