Dorothy Smestad

Dorothy Smestad, age 86, of Park River, ND and formerly of Fordville, ND passed away on Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at the First Care Health Center in Park River.

Dorothy was born February 29, 1932 at Fordville, the daughter of Stanley and Mathilda (Holwerda) Skibicki.  She was raised and grew to womanhood at Fordville.  She received her public education and graduated from Fordville High School in 1949.  Dorothy was united in marriage to Elvin Smestad on September 27, 1958 in Fordville.  After their marriage they lived and farmed near Fordville until moving into Fordville in December, 1997.  Mr. Smestad preceded her in death on June 14, 1999.

Dorothy was a teller in Valley Bank of Gilby and Grand Forks for many years.  She later was a bank teller at Bremer Bank in Fordville for several years until her retirement.

She enjoyed playing cards with her friends and family.  She liked the fellowship at the Fordville Senior Center.

Dorothy was a member of the Fordville Legion Auxiliary, Elk Valley Church and WELCA, and the Fordville Sunset Homemakers.

Surviving members of her family include her sons:  Jeffrey Smestad and Perry (Kathy) Smestad both of Fordville; 4 grandchildren:  Brandon (Dana) Smestad, Fordville, Nicholas (Morgan) Smestad, Fordville, Marty Smestad, Seattle, WA and Jamie Smestad, Grand Forks; great grandchildren:  Becket and Vayda; Gradyn and Jensyn; her sister Arlene Vein, Grand Forks; brother Donald Skibicki, Las Vegas, NV; sister-in-law Laurel Skibicki, Fordville and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brothers  Marvin “Tam” Skibicki and Harold Skibicki.

FUNERAL SERVICES:  11 a.m. Monday, July 16 at Elk Valley Lutheran Church near McCanna, ND.

VISITATION:  One hour prior to the funeral in the church.

INTERMENT:  Elk Valley Church Cemetery
