Earl “Squirt” Behm, age 81 of Niagara, ND, passed away Monday, September 30, 2013 at the Aneta Parkview Health Center in Aneta, ND.
Earl was born April 10, 1932 at Niagara, the son of George and Pauline (Bartuli) Behm. He received Holy Baptism and confirmed his Christian faith at St. Andrew Lutheran Church. Squirt was raised and grew to manhood near Niagara where he also received his public education. After graduation, he served in the United States Army.
Squirt married Margaret Yoney on February 21, 1956 in Grand Forks. After their marriage, they lived in Grand Forks where he worked. They moved to Niagara in the spring of 1957 and purchased the grocery store which they owned and operated until 1966. He became rural mail carrier serving Niagara, and later the Niagara and south Petersburg routes until his retirement. After retiring, the couple enjoyed traveling.
Surviving members of his family include his wife: Margaret; children: Roger (Marilyn) Behm, Cavalier; Carla (Michael) Wardzinski, Bismarck; Jolene (Kevin) Nason, Lakeland, FL; Jill Kroke, Michigan and Robert Behm, Bismarck; 11 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; sister: Joyce (Daral) Kankelfritz and sister-in-law: Gertie Behm.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers: Charles, Victor and Gene and an infant sister.
FUNERAL SERVICES: 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 5, 2013 at St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Niagara.
VISITATION: Friday, October 4 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service held in the Bakke Funeral Home of Larimore. Visitation will resume for one hour prior to the funeral in the church on Saturday.
INTERMENT: St. Andrew Lutheran Cemetery, Niagara.
MILITARY HONORS: John Larson Post No. 247 of the Petersburg American Legion.
