Edith Dahlen, 96, Fargo, ND formerly of Dahlen, ND passed away peacefully with family by her side at Bethany on 42nd Retirement Living, Fargo on Sunday, December 8, 2013.
FUNERAL SERVICES will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 14, 2013 at Dahlen Lutheran Church.
VISITATION will be one hour prior to the service.
BURIAL will be at Middle Forest River Cemetery, rural Dahlen.
Edith Bannerman was born on September 8, 1917 to James and Agnes (Bell) Bannerman. She grew up and attended public schools at Fordville, ND. After completing her schooling she worked for various families in the area as a housekeeper and cook.
On November 11, 1936, she married Arndt Dahlen in Petersburg, ND. They lived and farmed in the Dahlen area for over sixty years. They lived on the farm until moving to Fordville in October, 1995. In 1997 her husband passed away and Edith continued to live in Fordville until moving to Good Samaritan Independent Living Center in Park River in 2001. In 2007 she moved to Edgewood Vista Assisted Living in Fargo. The past four years she has resided at Bethany on 42nd Nursing Home.
She was actively involved in farming with her husband, hauling hay bales, driving tractors and trucks during harvest season, and taking care of livestock. Besides farming activities, she enjoyed quilting and sewing, making special individual quilts for all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was also an avid gardener, enjoyed playing cards, bingo, and loved to entertain people. She was an excellent cook in every which way specializing in various goodies: doughnuts, mocha cakes, angel food, and lefsa, just to name a few.
Spending time with her family and grandchildren was very important to her and loved to attend various school and sporting activities in which her grandchildren participated in. She was a very kind-hearted and loving mother and grandmother, who would help anyone in need. She will be greatly missed by her family.
Edith was a member of the Dahlen Lutheran Church and was actively involved with Church Choir, Ladies Aid (WELCA) and taught Sunday School for many years.
Edith is survived by her daughter Audrey (Roger) Kosobud, Fargo, ND; Daughter-in-law Judy Dahlen, Fordville; 9 grandchildren: Kimberly (Kelly) Jacobsen, John (Sara) Kosobud,Kelly (Sean) Kramer, Julie Dahlen, Jane (Scott) Krueger, Jill (Roger) Blasky, Brett Haines, Mike Micya, and Miles Micya; and 14 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Arndt, her son Ardell, her daughter Eunice, her four brothers: James, Neil, Lloyd, Earl and her four sisters: Maggie LeRoel, Myrtle Chase, Minerva Njos and Lyla Dahlen.
**In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Dahlen Lutheran Church or the Middle Forest River Cemetery fund.
