Eleanor Larson of Larimore, ND, formerly of rural Niagara, ND, passed away Tuesday, May 5, 2015 at the Good Samaritan Society-Larimore. She died peacefully, surrounded by her beloved family and friends.
Eleanor was born October 14, 1918 on a farm near McCanna, ND, the youngest of Walter and Marie (Gjetlaug Tvedt) Olson’s eight children. Eleanor graduated from Larimore High School in 1935 after helping lead her girls basketball team to the 1934 state championship. She later graduated from Aaker's Business School. On June 21, 1940, Eleanor married Albert Larson in Elm Grove and they farmed south of Niagara. Eleanor was a member of Lom Lutheran until she moved to Larimore in 1977, when she joined Our Savior's Lutheran. She loved to travel and was active in the church's Elizabeth Circle, the American Legion Auxiliary, and many other community activities until 2008, when she moved into Dakota Meadows Assisted Living. In 2013 she moved to the Good Sam, where she spent her final years.
Eleanor is survived by her son: Lynn "Dusty" Larson, of Casselton, ND; her daughter: Karren (Tom) Darone, of Fairfax, VA; two grandsons: Kristopher Larson and Dustin Darone; two granddaughters: Lindsy Larson and Gina (Charles) Davis; one great-granddaughter: Aubrie Lynn Nistler; two great-grandsons: Jaxson and Maddox Davis; and many well-loved nephews and nieces.
Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband and parents; seven siblings (Serina Strand, Olaf Olson, Ragna Pearson, R. Walter Olson, Margaret Meyer, Johannes Olson, and David M. Olson) and their spouses; and her daughter-in-law, Marilyn (Walkinshaw) Larson.
FUNERAL SERVICES: 2 p.m. Saturday, May 9, 2015 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Larimore.
VISITATION: Friday, May 8 from 6-8 p.m. with a 7:30 p.m. prayer service held in the Bakke Funeral Home of Larimore. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the funeral in the church on Saturday.
INTERMENT: Lom Church Cemetery, rural Niagara, ND.
