Ella Mork, 98, of Petersburg, ND passed away Friday December 22 at the Good Samaritan Center in Larimore.
Ella Bertina Haugen was born on what was presumed a cold New Years Day January 1, 1919 in Badger, MN. She went to country school speaking Norwegian but learned English. She graduated from Badger High School in 1937 and decided to further her education at the Deaconess Hospital Nursing School in Grand Forks, ND. While working the floor as an RN she caught the eye of a visitor from Petersburg and the rest is history so to speak. Ella married Sam Mork March 15, 1941 in Badger, MN. They would often tell the story that the day was beautiful but took a turn to one of the worst blizzards on record. Sam and Ella spent their first night as a married couple apart-Sam with his mother-in-law and Ella with the local phone operator. They settled in Petersburg living on a farm working together their married life. Ella was a true farm wife helping with milking, raising turkeys, making meals and being an office manager for Mork Insurance. Ella was an active member of Petersburg Lutheran Church often taking on work roles in WELCA, quilting and Sunday school. She was a member of Sons of Norway and a local 4-H leader. You weren’t a stranger for long if you met Ella. She was good at the art of conversation, which often involved a cup of coffee and cookies. Her common sense approach to life and gentle spirit was indeed a gift. Her deep love of family was exceeded only by her steadfast faith.
Ella is survived by her son Gary (Maureen) Mork of Petersburg, daughter Sharon (Craig) Lindemann of Enderlin, ND, and son-in-law Allan Meisner of Minneapolis, MN. Grandchildren include Aaron Mork, Tracy Mork, Ashley (Tom) Demers, Susan (Josh) Dahl, Maggie (Dustin) Whiteside, Kristin (Nathanael) Lilly, Kyle (Becky) Meisner and Grant Lindemann. Great grandchildren are Dylan, Brady and Cody Demers, Aubrielle Mork, Tristan Mork, Samuel, Siena, Hendrix and Lydia Dahl, Ella and Clarence Whiteside and Hanna and Cora Lilly. A brother, Floyd (Ruby) Haugen of Badger also survives Ella.
Husband Sam Mork, daughter JoAnn Meisner and brothers Jalmer and Elmer Haugen preceded Ella in death.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks for the wonderful care that Ella received at Larimore Good Samaritan Center.
Visitation will be from 5-7 PM with a prayer service at 7 PM Friday December 29 at Petersburg Lutheran Church. Visitation will continue from 10-11 AM Saturday December 30 at the church with funeral services to follow at 11 AM. Interment will be in the Petersburg Cemetery.
