ELMER “CASEY” KRUEGER
Elmer “Casey” Krueger, age 91 of Niagara, ND passed away Thursday, February 13, 2014 at the Good Samaritan Society, Larimore, ND
Elmer “Casey” was born January 2, 1923 at Grand Forks, the son of Bert and Amelia (Wolfgram) Krueger. He received Holy Baptism and confirmed his Christian faith at St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Niagara. He was raised and grew to manhood near Niagara where he attended rural school. He graduated from Niagara High School in 1941. Elmer “Casey” entered the U.S. Navy and served during World War II from 1944 to 1946 as a radioman on the PBY Airplane. After receiving his Honorable Discharge, he attended the State School of Science in Wahpeton where he studied to become an electrician. Elmer “Casey” married Betty Molkenbur at White Bear Lake, MN in 1958. After their marriage they lived at Bald Eagle Lake, MN before moving to rural Niagara in 1959 where they lived and farmed. He also was an area electrician installing electrical service in area homes and the church.
As a young man, he played baseball at Bachelors Grove where he got the nickname “Casey”. He was a member of St. Andrew Lutheran Church where he served as church secretary for 44 years.
Surviving members of his family include his daughters: Gail (Jesse) Rutter, Niagara; Diane (Mike) Dewald, Grand Forks; Lisa (David) Hillesland, Aneta; grandchildren: Nikolaus Schatke, Rainer Schatke, Jacqueline (Brian) Gualtieri, Chrystall Rutter, Jeffrey Walsh, Andrew Walsh, Erin Walsh, Kari Hillesland, Ben Hillesland; step grandchildren: Tony (Andrea) Woolf, Jesse (Wendi) Rutter, III, Dallas (Eric) Edwards, Aaron (Nana) Dewald, Kyle Dewald, Evan Dewald, Adam (Jae) Dewald, Tyler Dewald and 10 great grandchildren; brother: Henry (Ruth) Krueger, Cologne, MN; sister: Ruth Hanssen, Larimore; sister-in-law: Avis Krueger, Grand Forks and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, brother: Marvin and sister: Ida Kuhnert.
FUNERAL SERVICES: 10:30 a.m. Monday, February 17, 2014 at St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Niagara.
VISITATION: Sunday, February 16 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. with a 6:30 p.m. prayer service held at the Bakke Funeral Home in Larimore. Visitation will also be one hour prior to the funeral in the church on Monday.
INTERMENT: St. Andrew Lutheran Cemetery, Niagara.
MILITARY HONORS: John Larson Post No. 247 of the Petersburg American Legion and the North Dakota National Guard Honor Team.
