Frederick William Liebsch, Sr, 70, of Larimore, ND., passed away on Tuesday February 3, 2015 at the Veteran Affairs Medical Center in Fargo, ND.
Fred was born on February 23, 1944 in Falls City, NE. He’s the son of Frederick Nels and Evelyn (Hollens) Liebsch. He grew to manhood in Falls City, NE. After High School, he joined the United States Air Force in January 1962 as a Crash Rescue Firefighter. Fred was then stationed all across the United States. Fred served during the Vietnam War while stationed in Guam. From there Fred was stationed in South Korea where he met his wife, YuKi Yi. They married in March 1975 in Seoul Korea.
Fred served in the military for 22 years and retired as a Technical Sargent from the Fire Service in July 1984. Fred and his family moved to the Larimore, ND area in 1988 while Fred accepted a Civil Service Firefighter position at the Grand Forks Air Force Base. Fred just couldn’t give up the life of being a firefighter! He has said “Once a firefighter always a firefighter, it’s just in your blood.”
Fred loved the outdoors especially teaching his son and daughter to hunt and fish as they grew up. He was never short of advice or a tall tale. He was a great story teller of hunting and fishing adventures and loved talking about his days in the fire service and those he served with. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend; he will be dearly missed by all those who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, YuKi Liebsch, Larimore, ND., son Frederick (Erica) Liebsch,Jr., Meyersdale, PA., daughter Nancy (Joshua) Thompson, Larimore, ND., granddaughter Emmalyn Liebsch and twin Thompson babies due in July, sister Marian Vernon, Falls City, NE. He is preceded in death by his sister Joan Palyas; mother Evelyn Barker; sister Elaine Ramer; and father Frederick Nels Liebsch.
Visitation will be on Monday February 9, from 4-6pm with prayer service at 5pm at Bakke Funeral Home in Larimore.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday Feb 10, at 11am at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in Larimore.
Interment will be at Bellevue Cemetery in Larimore in the Spring.
Military Honors: Ted Valerius Post 97 and the North Dakota National Guard Honor Team.
