Gene Olson

Gene Olson, age 79, of Larimore, ND, passed away on Tuesday, March 1, 2016 at the Larimore Good Samaritan Society, following a long battle with cancer.

Gene was born August 30, 1936 in Beaver Creek Township, near Hatton, North Dakota, the son of Edwin and Alice (Walswick) Olson. He enlisted in the U. S. Navy and served with the C.B. Battalion from 1956 to 1958. Gene married Betty Hunt on March 24, 1956.

Through the years, Gene was employed by Paul Johnson, Gabriel Construction, Enoch Thorsgard, Shide Oil, the N. D. Highway Department and Hoverson Farms.

Surviving members of his family include his wife Betty; son Gene, Jr. (Sandy), Grand Forks, grandson Mike (Amy) and great grandson Logan, Shakopee, MN; son Jim and granddaughters: Kathryn and Rachel, Sylvania, OH; and son Jerry (Katie) and grandsons Sam and Griffin; Fargo; sisters: Elaine Wiberg, Ardell Bjerke and Arlene Darvell; all of Hatton; brother-in-law Bill Hunt, Washington state; sister-in-law: Edna Olson, Aneta; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Glenn Olson; nephews Brian Darvell, Bradley Darvell and Wayne Wiberg; brothers-in-law Bud Darvell, Parnell Bjerke and Duane Wiberg.

FUNERAL SERVICES: 2 p.m. Saturday, March 5, 2016 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Larimore.

VISITATION: Friday, March 4 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service held in the Bakke Funeral Home of Larimore. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to the funeral on Saturday.

INTERMENT: Bellevue Cemetery, Larimore.
MILITARY HONORS: Victory Post 92 of the Northwood American Legion, Northwood VFW Post 2707, and the North Dakota National Guard Honor Team.
