Gertrude Olson

Gertrude Marie Olson, 88, passed away December 18, 2020 at her home in Spring Hill, TN.  She was born July 27, 1932 near Dell Rapids, SD, the daughter of Elmer and Thelma Haugen. After graduating from Lyons High School, she worked in Sioux Falls, SD and then eventually moved to Seattle, WA to work.

On April 12, 1958, Gertrude was united in marriage to Albert Olson. After a brief residence in Spokane, WA, the newlyweds moved to Fargo, ND and then eventually relocated their family to Larimore, ND. Gertrude and her family were active members of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Larimore. She also drove a school bus for the Larimore Public School System for many years, a job she thoroughly enjoyed, as well as operating various businesses.

In 2005 after retirement, Gertrude and Albert moved to Mandan, ND and became members of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Bismarck, ND. In 2019, they both moved to Spring Hill, TN to be closer to two of their children.

Gertrude is survived by her daughter, Jonna Olson, of Spring Hill, TN; two sons, Jerroll Olson of Madison, AL and Greg (Kris) Olson of Redondo Beach, CA; four grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; two sisters, Ethel (Duane) Grieger of Buffalo, ND and Laverne Welter of Sioux Falls, SD; one brother, Jim (Sandy) Haugen of Huntsville, AL; five nieces and four nephews.

Gertrude is preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 62 years, Albert; and one brother, Elmer Haugen, Jr.

Funeral Services are scheduled for Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at 2 pm, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Larimore, ND. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service. Interment will be held at Bellevue Cemetery, Larimore.
