Gregory Holmes

Gregory Holmes, age 69, of Emerado, ND, passed away on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND.

Gregory was born December 8, 1948 in Minneapolis, MN, the son of Clarence and Rita (Ganley) Holmes. He was raised, educated and grew to manhood in Minneapolis. Gregory was united in marriage to Darlene Prestegard on January 10, 1970 in Minneapolis. He entered the United States Air Force and served from 1970 to 1974. After receiving his Honorable Discharge, he was a fireman at the Grand Forks Air Force Base for 14 years. He then was employed as a mail carrier in Grand Forks until retiring in 2008. He then became part time custodian at the Grand Forks Air Force Base public school until retiring due to ill health.

Gregory enjoyed watching football, racing and camping. He liked watching his grandchildren’s activities. He always made sure the bird feeder was filled.

Surviving members of his family include his wife Darlene; daughters: Jennifer (Todd) Bratlie, Northwood, Angie (Joseph) Landeis, Larimore; son: Spencer (Heather) Holmes, Burnsville, MN; grandchildren: Colbie, Shelbie, Alex, Zach, Nash and Tysen; brothers: Robert Holmes and Ken Holmes both of Minneapolis and his sister: Mary (Paul) Stonestrom, Minneapolis.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Cheri.

MEMORIAL MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL: 11 a.m. Friday, January 19 at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in Larimore.

VISITATION: One hour prior to the Mass

BURIAL AND MILITARY HONORS will take place at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in St. Paul, MN
