Harlan Sayler

Harlan Sayler, 86, of Larimore, ND passed away Friday, September 2, 2022, after a short stay at the Good Samaritan Society in Larimore. Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 8, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at the Larimore United Methodist Church in Larimore. A visitation will be held Wednesday, September 7, 2022 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service at the Bakke Funeral Home in Larimore.

Harlan was born August 28, 1936, the son of Pauline (Alexander) and Emanuel Sayler of Hebron N.D. After attending country school, he attended Hebron High School, graduating in 1955. Harlan continued his education at Dickinson College to become a teacher.  He taught in Drake for five years before moving to Larimore and teaching for thirty more years.  He retired in 1994.

Harlan married Sonja Gilbertson in 1970 and they had a son,Mark and a daughter, Machelle.

During the summer, he farmed with his dad until his dad passed away in 1978.  After that, he started working for Darryl Fossum. He loved driving the big machines and could fix just about anything.

Harlan was a very quiet man with few words.  We will miss his smile, jokes and his talents.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a nephew Tracy Sayler, and many brothers-in-law.

He is survived by his wife, Sonja of 52 years; son, Mark and daughter, Machelle and her husband, John Lee; brother Allen and wife Janet, and many nieces, nephews, and in-laws.
