Howard Wiegandt

Howard L. Wiegandt, 81, of Larimore, ND passed away on Saturday, November 28, 2020 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks.

Howard, son of Harry and Belinda (Wixo) Wiegandt, was born January 1, 1939 in Petersburg, ND. He attended grade school at Moraine Township School and graduated from Larimore High School in 1957.

Right out of high school, Howard worked construction as the Grand Forks Air Force Base was being built. He later worked as a mechanic at S&M Chevrolet in Larimore and as an assistant plumber for Adolph Nygaard in Larimore. He also worked at the family farm throughout this time. In 1970, when his father passed away, Howard began farming while also working for the Grand Forks County Highway Department. It was in this role that Howard truly enjoyed serving others, operating road grading equipment that kept area roads in safe condition. He was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church, rural Larimore.

Howard married Janice McLaren on June 1, 1958 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Larimore. They raised their family in Larimore, moving to the family farm in 1969 where they remained until 2008 when they moved to Larimore. Howard has resided at the Good Samaritan Center in Larimore since 2017. Special staff members became part of his extended family and were especially appreciated during the last months of his life when visitors were limited at the center.

Howard is survived by his wife, Janice, of Larimore; sons, Randy (Jody) and Mark (Leslie) of Larimore, Scott (Crystal Tronnes), Citra, FL, and daughter, Kari (Terri Farrell) of Elk River, MN; 8 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; sisters, Bernice Pavek, Fargo, Helen (Dale) Emery, Grand Forks, Linda (Allen) Roth, Grand Forks, and brother, Ardell (Marcia), Perham, MN; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was a friend to many.

Howard was preceded in death by his parents.

A Public Viewing will be from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 on Wednesday, December 2nd, at the Bakke Funeral Home in Larimore. Face masks and social distancing are required. Private family services will be held with burial at Bellevue Cemetery, Larimore.

Memorials may be designated to Bellevue Cemetery.
