Larimore

James Allan Griffin, 76, of Larimore, ND, passed away on April 15, 2025, under the care of Hospice at the Good Samaritan Society-Larimore.

Born November 1, 1948, to William and Irene Griffin, James was raised in North Dakota, where he developed a strong work ethic and a deep love for aviation. Both of his parents preceded him in death.

A veteran of the Vietnam War, James served his country with honor. After his military service, he earned a degree in aviation from the University of North Dakota. He went on to share his aviation knowledge as a flight instructor at UND, helping guide the next generation of pilots.

James married Barbara Shide, and though their marriage ended in divorce, they had three children together: Scott (Tracy), Sarah (Jeremy) Swanson, and Steve. He is also survived by nine grandchildren: Ashley, Meagan, and Jacob Griffin; Tanner (Savannah), Taryn, Jillian, and Jonah Swanson; and Kiera and Collin Griffin.

Over the years, James built a diverse career that reflected his many interests. He farmed, ran a crop spraying business, and later founded Griffin Insurance, where he remained active for many years.

He is also survived by his siblings: Charles (Linnea) Griffin, Susan (John) Bevilacqua, and Janet (David) Kuwahara, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, August 2, 2025, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at the Larimore Legion Auditorium. In lieu of gifts, the family asks for your presence and shared memories.

James will be remembered for his service, skills, and the unique path he carved through life.
