James "Jim" Miles

James “Jim” Miles, age 75 of Petersburg, ND, passed away Sunday, January 26, 2014 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks.
James “Jim” Miles was born November 13, 1938 in Snowhill, NC, the son of James W. and Bertie B. (Jones) Miles. He grew up and graduated in Hopewell, VA. He then went into the United States Air Force in Richmond, VA on July 1, 1957. He served boot camp in Texas and was an air traffic controller. He was stationed in Wisconsin, Korea and Grand Forks. Jim received his Honorable Discharge in Grand Forks on July 1, 1961.
Jim married Colleen C. McMahon on July 6, 1961 in Michigan, ND. They moved to Hopewell, VA and worked at the Reynolds Aluminum Plant, moving back to Petersburg where he worked as a farm laborer and at Adamson Lumber and the Town Pump. They moved back to Virginia and worked at American Tobacco Co. and lived for 7 years, returning to Petersburg and worked at the Sugar Beet Plant in Grand Forks and then hired on the B & N Railroad as a laborer and track maintenance until his retirement.
He is a member of the New Testament Baptist Church in Larimore. A member of the American Legion of Petersburg. He liked to fish with his grandchildren, coaching Little League in Virginia and North Dakota and to visit with his friends.
He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his family and many friends.
Surviving members of his family include his wife Colleen, son: James P. (Carolina) Miles, Petersburg; his daughters: Patricia (George) Lamb, LoLo, MT; Mary (John) Cronk, Belle Fourch, SD and Barbara (Robert) Denault, Fargo; 13 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild; sisters: Dorothy Alley, Dixie, WV, Beatrice Brooks, Chester, VA. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, daughter: Connie Lynn Miles, 2 brothers: George and Douglas, sister: Gwendolynn Royall and infant granddaughter: Mykayla Miles.


FUNERAL SERVICES: 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 1, 2014 at the New Testament Baptist Church in Larimore, ND.


VISITATION: One hour prior to the service in the church.


MILITARY HONORS: John Larson Post No. 247 of the Petersburg, ND, American Legion and the North Dakota National Guard Honors Team.


INTERMENT: Petersburg Cemetery, Petersburg, ND.
