James Virden

James McClellan Virden passed away at the age of 90 on Tuesday, Oct 2, 2018 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks.
Jim or Mac as known by family was born on May 29, 1928 in Kempton, ND to Guy and Leilah Virden.  He received an honorable discharge from the US Army after a short service and then served in the US Navy and was honorably discharged in 1947.  He married Fern Carlson of Northwood, ND on April 30, 1948 and they settled in raising their family of five children in Grand Forks.  Jim worked for the Great Northern and then Burlington Northern Railroad for 39 years. He retired in 1988 and then enjoyed family and friends, golf, time in Arizona each winter and dancing with his “bride”.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, five sisters, and his grandson, David James Rudolf.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Fern, his son, Tim, and four daughters, Deb (Greg) Rudolf,  Wendy(Dennis) Moore,  Carole and Polly, six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 13, 2018 in the Havig Heen Auditorium of 4000 Valley Square in Grand Forks.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

Interment will be in Bellevue Cemetery, Larimore, ND
