JOYCE MATHESON
Joyce Mae Setter Matheson was born in Flora, ND September 16, 1927, to Loretta Neibauer and Louis Setter, and she died Friday, October 17, 2014 at her home in Larimore, ND.
Joyce went to school in Flora, then her family moved to Crary, Ramsey County, ND. Louis was an elevator man there. The whole family graduated from Crary High School. She got a degree from Mayville Teachers College, then taught in Dunseith, Lakota, Osnabrock and on to Langdon for a period of 20 years.
Joyce married John B. Matheson on July 29, 1950 in Sacred Heart Catholic Church at Crary, ND. They lived in Lakota where John B. worked as a telegrapher and agent at Great Northern Depot, later the BNSF. They move to Larimore in 1985 where they built a new house and retired.
Her children were Katherine Mae, who graduated from Langdon High School and married Keith Dempsey after college, and John Paul who lived at home with his parents.
John B. died September 8, 2000. Katherine Mae died January 6, 2006—she had three children: Cassandra, Erika and Andrew.
She is survived by her son John Paul; her brothers Louis, California; John, Denver; and Frank Setter, Maine; her sisters Audrey Kavanaugh and Marie Hoien, both of Milwaukee, and grandchildren Cassandra Forbess, Portland, OR; Erika Broad, Seattle; and Andrew Dempsey, Kennewick, WA. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Joyce will be buried at the family plot near Milton, ND next to John B. and Kathy Dempsey.
FUNERAL SERVICES will be held at 12 noon on Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in Larimore, ND. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral in the church on Tuesday.
