After working as an OB-GYN nurse, she stayed home to raise her five children before returning to school to become an English, Speech and Drama teacher.  After her teaching career, she returned to nursing and worked in long term care in Larimore, Grafton, and Park River.

She and Darrel Fossum were married on September 23, 1963 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Larimore.
