KENNETH SCHMIDT
Kenneth John Schmidt, age 84, resident of Petersburg, ND, for many years, and most recently of Larimore, ND, died on Saturday, June 16, 2012 at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Larimore.

Kenneth, the first born of Erwin and Gertrude (Wolfgram) Schmidt was born August 25, 1927 at home in rural Niagara. In the fall of 1928, he and his parents moved southwest of Niagara where he spent his growing up years. He appreciated the joys, privileges and hardships of growing up on a farm. Kenneth was educated at Petersburg Rural School #2 and attended high school at Petersburg. He was baptized at rural St. Andrew Lutheran Church near Niagara.

On September 2, 1950 Kenneth was united in marriage to Gilma Georgeson at rural St. Andrew Lutheran Church. Shortly after their marriage Kenneth was drafted into the U. S. Army, being deployed into the Korean Conflict, serving as a medic. He was awarded several medals for services rendered. He received his Honorable Discharge September 2, 1952. Four children were born to Kenneth and Gilma: Harvey, Victor, Diane and Donna. Throughout the years he farmed on the weekends and worked road construction during the week. He was considered one of the top blademen in the Tri-State area, working for Nelson County, S & S Construction, Close Construction and others, blading roads. In later years he farmed with his grandson David Blasey and maintained rural Petersburg-Michigan Township roads with his grader.

He is survived by his wife Gilma of 61 years; son: Harvey (Kathy)Schmidt, Apache Junction, AZ; daughters: Diane Blasey, East Grand Forks and Donna Beard, Larimore; 8 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren: 2 sisters: Eileen (Deloy) Kiefat, Aneta; Janice Schmidt, Petersburg; 3 brothers: Lloyd (Dorcas) Schmidt, Oslo, MN; Russell Schmidt, Petersburg; Ervy (Judy) Schmidt, Niagara; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son: Victor; daughter-in-law: Bonnie Schmidt; granddaughter: Sheila Schmidt Lund; sisters: Donna Mae Schmidt, Lois Ellenson; brothers: Curtis and Palmer (Mickey).
FUNERAL SERVICES: 1:00 p.m. Thursday, June 21, 2012 at St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Niagara.

INTERMENT: St. Andrew Lutheran Cemetery, Niagara.

MILITARY HONORS: John Larson Post No. 247, Petersburg American Legion.

VISITATION: Wednesday, June 20 from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service held in the Bakke Funeral Home of Larimore. Visitation will also be for one hour prior to the funeral in the church Thursday.
