Leroy Marvin Sletten, age 90, Larimore, died October 22 nd , 2022 at Valley Elder Care, Grand Forks, ND, with his family by his side.

Leroy was born June 18 th , 1932 to Hjerdis (Christiansen) and Hjalmer Sletten in Wheatfield township, Grand Forks County, North Dakota. He attended a one-room schoolhouse in Hegton township through 8 th grade. He worked as an electrician apprentice for Johnson Stores, bringing electricity to many farmhouses for the first time. He then attended North Dakota State School of Science in Wahpeton, earning a degree in Electrical Technology.

On June 19 th , 1951, he started his career at Minnkota Power on the line crew and ultimately became Manager of Electrical Operations. After 41 years of working at a job he loved, he retired December 11th, 1993. Using his mechanical and electrical knowledge, he worked as a consultant for many more years. He was recognized as the first recipient of the Outstanding Achievement Award from NDSSS by the College Alumni Association. He also received the North Dakota Power Use Council Achievement Award.

On October 11 th , 1953, Leroy married Phyllis Lorraine Johnson in Kennedy, MN. Together they raised six children in rural Larimore, ND.

Leroy was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran church, a charter member of Living Faith Free Lutheran Church, and served on the Pension Board for the Association of Free Lutheran Congregations.

Leroy is survived by his children Kenneth (Wanita) Sletten, Duluth, MN, Thomas (Hazel) Sletten, Larimore, ND, Janna (Brandon) Sletten, Eden Prairie, MN, Dean (Merianne) Sletten, Moorhead, MN, Daniel (Sheri) Sletten, Larimore, ND, Mark (Maren) Sletten, Argusville, ND; Six grandchildren, James Sletten, Belgrade, MT, Adam (Rachel) Sletten, Billings, MT, Aaron (Emily) Sletten, Cupertino, CA, Jennifer Sletten, West Fargo, ND, Ryan Sletten, Fargo, ND and Magnus Sletten, Argusville, ND; One great-grandchild, Stella Sletten, Billings MT; Brother-in-law Earl (Lois) Johnson, Sister-in-law Sue Johnson and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Phyllis, two infant sons and brother Delmar.

Memorials can be sent to Living Faith Free Lutheran Church, Hospice of the Red River Valley or Bellevue Cemetery.

Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 am, Thursday, October 27 th at Living Faith Free Lutheran Church, Larimore, ND. There will be visitation on Wednesday, October 26 th , at Bakke Funeral Home, Larimore, ND at 6:00 pm with prayer service at 7:00 pm.  Visitation will also be held from 9:30 until 10 a.m. in the church on Thursday.  Burial will be in Bellevue Cemetery, Larimore.
