Lynn Raymond Sluke, age 79, of Fordville, ND, passed away at Altru Hospital Grand Forks, ND on Friday, July 10, 2015 surrounded by his family.
He was born on November 15, 1935 in Fordville, ND. His parents were Willard and Helen (Kenyon) Sluke. He was active in high school basketball, baseball, football and track and graduated from Fordville High School in 1955. Lynn married Joanne Foerster in Park River, ND on February 26, 1955. They lived their entire married life on the Sluke farm near Fordville where they raised livestock and farmed the land producing small grains. The farm was homesteaded in 1898 by Lynn’s grandparents, Joseph and Anna Sluke. Lynn also worked for the ND state highway department for 38 years, retiring in August 1999. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a member of Ducks Unlimited, Dakota Prairie Wildlife Club, Ridge Runners Snowcat Club, and was a member of the Fordville Lutheran Church.
He is survived by five sons - David (Mary) Sluke of Grafton, Dale (Denise) Sluke of Fordville, Daniel (Nedra) Sluke of Minot, Marcel (Lisa) Sluke of West Fargo and Michael Sluke of Fargo; Eleven grandchildren - Kari (Ryan) Edmondson of Seattle WA, Jennifer (James) Marshall of Redmond WA, Lori (Elliot) Steinbrink of West Fargo, Deanne (Taif) Trieglaff of West Fargo, Dustin Sluke of Fordville, Preston and Marissa Sluke of Fordville, Courtney (Justin) Traeger of Minot, Amber Sluke of Minot, Andrea Sluke of Detroit Lakes MN, Brendan Sluke of West Fargo; and six great grandchildren - Emma, Adrina, Sonja, Lucas, Jolynn and Ayden. He is also survived by a beloved companion and dog “Lady”.
Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife Joanne Sluke and an infant brother.
Visitation will be Monday, July 13 from 9:00-11:00 a.m. followed by the funeral at 11 a.m., both at the Fordville Lutheran Church. Burial will take place at Oak Grove Cemetery at Fordville, immediately following the funeral.
