Marijo was born June 30, 1929 in Grand Forks, ND, the daughter of Fred and Claudine Loomis. She was raised with the bible verse 'For everyone unto whom much is given, much shall be expected.’ Her parents also told her ‘You are an 11th generation American. You have a big debt to pay to all the people that came before you to prepare a place for you to live in a country with liberty and freedom.’

She was the youngest woman to be elected as the International President of the GFWC in 1980-1982, the oldest and largest women volunteer organization in the world at that time with 10 million members in 46 countries. She also had a day designated in her name, proclaimed by her home community of Larimore, North Dakota.

She was a member and president of the ND State Board of Higher Education in 1984-1991. In 2000 she was named the Outstanding Woman of North Dakota by the ND Women of Today.
