Marion Schmidt

Marion M. Schmidt, 91, of Larimore, ND, formerly of Petersburg, was called Home on Friday, July 27, 2012 at Northwood Deaconess Health Center surrounded by her family.

Born in Adler Township, ND on April 27, 1921 to Hans and Mabel (Johnson) Aamodt, she was the second of four children. The family later moved to Nash Township and then to Petersburg. She was baptized in Lom Lutheran Church, rural Niagara, and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Petersburg Lutheran.

Marion graduated from Petersburg High School as class valedictorian in 1938. She worked in the Petersburg Cash Store and attended Mayville State Teachers College where she received her teachers certificate. She taught school in Adler, Dahlen, and Logan Center. She also worked at Highway 2 Café and City Café in Petersburg and the Kite Café in Michigan.

Marion and Elmer A. Schmidt were married on January 29, 1951 at Petersburg. They were the parents of three children.

Marion was a member of Petersburg Lutheran Church and Petersburg Lutheran WELCA and taught Sunday School. Marion also belonged to Sons of Norway.

She loved baking, sewing and jigsaw puzzles. Hearing her family play and perform music was one of the special parts of her life along with enjoying a cup of coffee or hot chocolate and visiting. She was always one to initiate conversations and welcome new friendships. She enjoyed people!

In June of 2007, she entered the Larimore Good Samaritan Center where she was blessed with loving care and found many dear friends, both in the residents and staff. In the last months of her life, for a short time, she was also a resident of the Northwood Deaconess Health Center where again, she found good care and friendships.

Marion is survived by; son: Bradley (Marci) of Petersburg; daughter: Mary Ellen (Steven) Peters of Perth, ND; two granddaughters: Vanessa (Adam) Becvar and Rebecca Peters (fiancé, Ryan Madden); sister: Evelyn Reiten; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer; an infant son: Emmett; two brothers: Gordon, and Harold (Buster) and her parents.

FUNERAL SERVICES: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 1, 2012 at Petersburg Lutheran Church, Petersburg, ND.


INTERMENT: Petersburg Cemetery, Petersburg, ND.

VISITATION: Tuesday, July 31, from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service held in the Bakke Funeral Home of Larimore, ND. Visitation will also be for one hour prior to the funeral in the church Wednesday.

BAKKE FUNERAL HOME, LARIMORE, ND

Officiating will be Rev. Kirk Thorson. Music selections will be provided by Marlys Hoverson as the Pianist and Janice Schmidt as the Organist.
