Michael Loren Olson

January 12, 1948 — April 7, 2014

Michael L. Olson, 66, died surrounded by family after a valiant fight with cancer on Monday, April 7, 2014, in Altru Hospital, Grand Forks.

Michael was born to Olaf and Lucille (Dwyer) Olson on January 12, 1948, at Northwood, ND. He grew up in the Niagara/McCanna area, was confirmed at Elm Grove Lutheran Church, and graduated from Larimore High School.

After graduation, he farmed with his father for many years before becoming a truck driver for several area companies including Kyllo Trucking and Strata Corporation. He enjoyed both occupations tremendously. Michael valued hard work and a job well done.

In his personal time, Michael enjoyed watching western movies and television series and read voraciously. He always had an opinion on current events.

Michael is survived by his mother Lucille Olson, Larimore, his wife Janice, Larimore; children Dawn (Cary) Murphy of Clay Center, KS; Tim Olson of Larimore; Matt (Jana) Olson of Valley City; and Luke Olson of Williston. He was extremely proud of his three grandchildren, Ella, Emmett, and Emery Olson of Valley City.

He is also survived by his sisters, Irene Johnson of Grand Forks and Helen (Jim) McLean of Larimore and niece and nephews.

Michael was preceded in death by his father Olaf Olson and sister Joanne Olson.

SERVICES will be held Saturday, April 12, at 11:00 a.m. at First Church of the Nazarene, Larimore, ND.

VISITATION will be at Bakke Funeral Home on Friday, April 11, from 5-7 p.m., with a prayer service at 7 p.m. and for one hour prior to Saturday’s service in the church.
