Muriel (Sis) Sack, age 98 of Inkster, ND, died on Nov. 19, 2019, at Good Samaritan Home in Larimore, ND. Born August 23, 1921, in Inkster, Muriel was the daughter of Alfred M. Hanson and Elsie Spengler Hanson. She attended school in Inkster, graduating from high school in 1939. On August 3, 1940, she married Marvin Sack. Early in their marriage they lived in Gretna, NE, for three years and then returned to Inkster where they raised their five children.
Through the years, Muriel balanced caring for her family while working on a potato harvester in the fall and working in a potato warehouse in the spring and winter. She was a tireless worker most of her life and rarely complained about work. In 1963 she became employed by the U.S. Postal Service as a rural mail carrier in and around Inkster. She retired on August 31, 1989, after serving 26 years.
Muriel was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, also in Inkster, where she was treasurer for many years. Besides being an active member of her church, she was involved in most community activities. She was a person who exhibited concern, caring, and kindness for others. She, in turn, was the recipient of much care and kindness from community members in her latter years.
Muriel was known as someone who enjoyed life, delighting in new experiences and social events with her friends. At her house, the coffee pot was always on and not a day went by that any number of friends and neighbors would stop by for friendly conversation. Wary of empty stomachs passing through her kitchen, she would rarely let visiting family leave her home without a meal or an armful of goodies.
Her sons-in-law will tell you that Muriel had a wicked sense of humor. They would play all kinds of pranks on her and engage in witty banter, hurling accusations of cheating each time she beat them at cards, which was often. Muriel would do the same to them, typically with a giggle and mischievous smile. She kept her sense of humor until the end of her life.
Muriel is survived by three daughters and one son: Jerry Siemers, Aitkin, MN; Cathy (George) Fleming, Woodland, CA; Cindy (Ronald) Jenson, Freeland, MI; and Kerry(Ann) Sack, Maple Grove, MN. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Marvin Sack, son Kelly Sack, grandson Darrin Jenson, son-in-law Richard Siemers, her parents, and her siblings, Marion Youngberg, Alta Mae (Peg) Weston, Maynard Hanson, Clarence Hanson, and Alfred Hanson.
SERVICES will be held in the Larimore Good Samaritan Chapel on Saturday, November 23 at 1 p.m. INTERMENT will be held in Inkster Cemetery, Inkster, ND.
