Olga J. Helland was born July 9, 1921 in rural Walsh County, North Dakota, the daughter of Ole and Annette Sve.  She attended school in Fordville, ND and graduated from Fordville High School.

Olga was married to Alfred Helland on September 19, 1940 at Chester, MT.   In 1941, the couple moved to Portland, OR where Alfred worked as a welder on the Liberty Ships during World War II.  They moved back to the Fordville, ND area in 1945 where they farmed until retiring.  The couple moved into Fordville in 1978.  Olga moved to Perham, MN in January 2017.  Olga enjoyed gardening, bird watching, hunting gophers, cooking, square dancing, old time dancing, being outdoors, loved music, watching the Twins, doing crossword puzzles, and being with family and friends.  She was her grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s biggest fan attending many sporting events, concerts, baptisms, and graduations throughout the years.

She was a member of Fordville Lutheran Church where she spent many years active in Ladies Aid.  Olga’s Christian faith was very important to her.

Olga passed away on Sunday, October 4, 2020 in Perham Health Hospital, Perham, MN at the age of 99.

Surviving members of her family include her sons Gary Helland, Fordville, ND, Clark (Cathie) Helland, Willmar, MN, and Paul (Lois) Helland, Perham, MN.  Grandchildren are Carla Helland (David Hagstrand), Colette (Mark) Jackson, Charles (Monica) Helland, Cindell (David) Haugen, Nissa (Brandon) Kvidt, and Britta (Jay) Jelinek.   Great-grandchildren are Isaac and Lucas Jackson, Otis Helland, Liam and Emma Kvidt, and Elsie Hagstrand.  Olga is also survived by her sister-in-law, Lulu Sve.

Olga was preceded in death by her parents, husband Alfred, sister Edna Edinger, brother John Sve, and granddaughter Christa Helland.

Public viewing will be held at the Fordville Lutheran Church on Saturday, October 10 th , 2020 from 1-3 PM.  Social distancing and masks are required.  Masks will be available at the door. There will be a funeral service later for immediate family only to honor Olga’s life. Interment at Oak Grove Cemetery, Fordville, ND.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Park River Bible Camp, Park River, ND.
