PHILIP BJORNSON
Philip Bjornson, age 69, of Arvilla, ND, passed away Thursday, October 23, 2014 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND.
Philip was born October 4, 1945 at Grand Forks, the son of Ray and Nellie (Spearman) Bjornson. He was raised and grew to manhood in Hegton Township where he attended rural grade school. He then attended the Northwest School of Agriculture in Crookston, graduating in 1963. Philip served in the United States Army from 1966-1968, stationed in Vietnam, as a Medic with the 1st Infantry Division. He was awarded the Bronze Star, Army Commendation Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal. After receiving his Honorable Discharge he returned to rural Arvilla to the family dairy farm. He also worked for several years in civil service at the Grand Forks Air Force Base.
Philip married Arlette Nabben on November 14, 1975 at Elk Valley Lutheran Church of rural McCanna, ND.
He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, the Disabled American Veterans and American Legion and had been a leader for the Hegton Bachelors 4-H club.
Surviving members of his family include his wife Arlette; children: Jason Bjornson, Grand Forks; Sara (Michael) Jobin, Duluth, MN and Daniel Bjornson, Fargo; 2 grandsons: Levi Jobin and Caleb Jobin; his sister: Peggy (James) Preston, Albany, OR and brother: Neal (Pat) Bjornson, San Antonio, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother: Lyall.
SERVICES: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 28, 2014 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Honeyford, ND
VISITATION: Monday, October 27 from 5-7 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service held in the Bakke Funeral Home of Larimore.
MILITARY HONORS: Ted Valerius Post No. 97 of the Larimore American Legion and the North Dakota National Guard Honor Team.
INTERMENT: Arvilla Cemetery, Arvilla, ND.
