Richard Barta

Richard F Barta was born June 26, 1944 to Louis V. and Ann M. (Matcha) Barta in Grafton, ND. He was raised on the family farm near Grafton.

Richard enlisted in the ND National Guard in 1962 and proudly served until 1970.

In 1972 he married Helen Elaine Dick. They built a farm in 1979 near McCanna, ND, where they resided.

He worked in the grain elevator business for 50 years until he was diagnosed with cancer. He lost that courageous fight on October 10, 2016.

In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, hunting & building things.

He is survived by his wife Helen, sister Phyllis Rocksvold (GF), daughters Rhonda Wood (Velva, ND), Jo Barta (McCanna,ND), son Samuel (Catherine) Barta (Petersburg, ND), grandchildren Amber Stortroen, Taylor (Josh) Feller, Tyler (Emily) Barta, Richard Barta, Great-grandchildren Hailey, Laykin, Kenadie and Nolan. As well as numerous other relatives.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Lucas, son Shane.

MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society, Altru Cancer Center or Relay For Life.

GRAVESIDE SERVICES: 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 22, 2016 at Elk Valley Church Cemetery, rural McCanna, ND with Rev. Jessica Darty officiating.

MILITARY HONORS: John Larson Post 247 of the Petersburg, ND, American Legion and the North Dakota National Guard Honor Team.
