Robert V. "Bob" Nelson

Robert V. “Bob” Nelson, age 81, of Grand Forks, ND and formerly of Gilby, ND, passed away Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at Valley Eldercare in Grand Forks.

Robert was born August 15, 1933 in Grand Forks, the son of Oscar and Verna (Sauer) Nelson. He lived near Emerado until 1939 when the family moved to Wheatfield Township near Gilby. He attended and graduated from Gilby High School. Bob began farming in 1959. He served in the U. S. Army. He married Norma Arnberger on December 6, 1957 in Gilby.

Bob served as past supervisor and chairman of the Wheatfield Township Board and was a past member of the Honeyford Elevator Board. Bob was a member of the Gilby Presbyterian Church where he served as elder and deacon.

Surviving members of his family include his son Guy, Gilby; son-in-law: Gary Gonitzke, Inkster; grandsons: Matthew and Thomas Gonitzke, Inkster; sisters-in-law: Marilyn Nelson, Grand Forks, Phyllis (Roger) Carlson, Mountain Home, AR; brother-in-law: Neil (Cindy) Arnberger, Deer Park, IL; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, daughter Beth Gonitzke and brother Marvin.

MEMORIAL SERVICES: 2 p.m. Tuesday July 21, 2015 in the Gilby Presbyterian Church of Gilby.

BURIAL: Prairie Home Cemetery, Gilby.
