Ruth D. Hanssen passed away Sunday December 11, 2016 at her home at the Good Samaritan Society, Larimore ND at the age of 101.
Ruth Dorothy Krueger was born September 26, 1915, the oldest of the five children of Bert and Amelia (Wolfgram) Krueger at Niagara, North Dakota where she attended school. She was baptized and confirmed in her Lutheran faith at St. Andrew Lutheran church, Niagara. Ruth and Carl Hanssen were united in marriage on March 23, 1941 and moved to Michigan, ND where they raised their 4 daughters. The family were members of Zion Lutheran Church where she served as organist and was a member of Ladies Aide Society. For many years she was cook at the Nelson County Rest Home, and after she retired, she and Carl returned to live in Niagara. They enjoyed fishing trips and traveling to visit their family in Alaska and on the East Coast. Before her debilitating stroke in 1989 she enjoyed gardening, playing the piano, sewing, embroidery and crocheting and cooking and baking, She had a life long interest in reading. She had been a resident of Good Samaritan Society, Larimore since August 1996.
Ruth is survived by her daughters Audrey Cicchetti, Maynard MA, her children Giulia (Ilia Shlimak) and Giancarlo (Jennifer Sternick); Lois Davis (Don), Wayland MA, and children Alison (Andy Ross) and Carl Davis; Ruth Lee (Gene) Hartsville SC and children Craig (Christine) and Teresa Mundy (David); and Gloria Hooper, Denver CO and children Annie (Patrik) Sartz, Alex, David (Brita) and Michael. Her great-grandchildren are Nicholas and Paul Cicchetti, David and Anna Shlimak, Malcolm and Stuart Ross, Connor Lee and Kaitlyn and Sarah Mundy, and Evelyn Sartz. She is also survived by her youngest brother Henry (Ruth) Cologne MN and many nieces nephews and cousins.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Carl in 1997, her sister Ida Kuhnert, brothers Marvin and Elmer Krueger, and sons-in-law John Cicchetti and Al Hooper
The funeral service for Ruth Hanssen will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 16, 2016 at St. Andrew Lutheran Church, Niagara, Pastor Dennis Neels, officiating. Visitation will be one hour preceding the funeral at the church. Internment will be in St. Andrew Cemetery, rural Niagara
Ruth's family wish to thank the Good Samaritan Society Larimore and staff for the loving care they gave her for over 20 years. They were truly her home and second family.
