Sherry Stover

August 27, 1947 — December 9, 2017

Sherry Ann (Schaley) Stover was born on August 27, 1947 to Chester and Pearl (Nusviken) Schaley. She was baptized at Lom Lutheran Church, Niagara, ND. At age 70 Sherry left this world on December 9, 2017 as the wife for 49 years of James Stover and mother of Tyler and Nathan Stover and Kara (Stover) Oakes and nine (going on ten) grandchildren.

Sherry attended Adler, Niagara, and Unity Public School in Petersburg, ND. She received a B.S. Degree from NDSU in Home Economics, Child Development and Foods and Nutrition. Her education allowed her to teach school at Bad Axe, MI, Klamath Falls, OR, Walhalla, ND and pre-school at Larimore and Petersburg, ND. When her children had grown up she went on to work in the WIC and FNP programs in Grand Forks County.

After four years of courtship, she married Jim on December 28, 1968 with a honeymoon in Winnipeg, Manitoba and then promptly left for Colorado State University at Fort Collins, CO. She then followed Jim into the Air Force as an officer’s wife. Their assignments included Panama City, FL, Port Austin, MI, Klamath Falls, OR and Duluth, MN before returning home to raise kids and farm in 1973. Tyler was born in 1973, Nathan in 1975 and Kara in 1979. She worked as a homemaker until returning to the workforce in 1995.

Sherry loved her family. She was actively involved in her children’s lives and activities. She was a 4-H Leader, Sunday School teacher and superintendent. She was an avid fan of her kids and followed all of their events, rarely missing any of their events from grade-school through college and beyond. She was a wonderful hostess, paying attention to the smallest detail for the event, making sure everyone felt welcome at her home. Sherry was also involved in many Bible Studies, neighborhood prayer groups, Women’s Club, and Hegton Township Homemakers. She enjoyed crafting from sewing and knitting to scrapbooking.

Sherry is survived by her husband, James Stover; brother, Randy (Jeanne) Schaley; 3 children, Tyler (Emy) Stover, Nathan (Kristin) Stover, and Kara (Steve) Oakes; 9 grandchildren, William, Tucker, Phoebe and Lyla Stover; Kayleigh Stover; Isabelle, Braedon, Ellianna and Alexandra Oakes; Mother-in-law, Frances Stover; 3 brothers-in-law and their spouses, 1 sister-in-law and her spouse, a cousin, several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
