Shirley Ann Trosen, 85 years, passed away peacefully May 12, 2021 at Larimore Good Samaritan Center. Shirley was born on June 10, 1935 to Elmer and Solvay (Christiansen) Peterson. She attended Hegton Township Country School and graduated from Larimore Public High School in 1953. Shirley attended Aaker Business School and worked at Ness Epco in Grand Forks. She married Duane Trosen on March 3, 1957 in Larimore, where they raised five children, farmed, and owned and operated Trosen Ford.
Shirley was an awesome cook, making thousands of meals for farm hands, neighbors, and kids – most of those meals were fed out in the fields. She drove tractor and truck, and she was an excellent parts runner and farm equipment mover. Shirley and Duane never missed their children’s or grandchildren’s sporting activities or school events. Shirley was an extrovert – she was very active in Homemakers, Birthday Club, Arvilla Snowmobile Club, Larimore Golf Club, and a lifelong member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church.
Shirley and Duane enjoyed traveling together and spent much of their time in Las Vegas. She also enjoyed bus trips with West-Pic Travel. Some of her favorite times were at the family cabin at Grace Lake, Minnesota. During the summer weeks, you could find her wearing out a John Deere lawn mower in her yard that was kept just as neat as her house. She never missed her 2 o’clock coffee and sweet treat break with her dear lady friends in Larimore. Good Samaritan Center has been her home for the last few years, where she received excellent care.
Shirley is preceded in death by her husband Duane, son Terry, parents Elmer and Solvay, and brother Wallace. She is survived by her sister Lavonne (Dennis) Bitz, daughter Cindy (Scott) Sundet, sons Jeff, Brent (Janell), and Todd (Susan), and sister-in-law Carol Heffelfinger, and her very special grand children, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
