Stanley A. Moreland, 86, of Inkster, ND, went to meet Jesus on Thursday, February 16, 2017 at his home near Inkster, surrounded by his family.
Stanley was born January 26, 1931 in Inkster, the son of Harry and Viola (Fisher) Moreland. He lived most of his life in Strabane Township. He attended Strabane 106 Country School and Inkster Public School, from where he graduated. After working on the family farm for a year, he was drafted into the United States Marine Corp. He served 2 years at Camp Pendleton, CA and was Honorably Discharged in December of 1953, receiving the National Medal of Honor.
On April 21, 1956, Stan married Joann L. Hoye. In 1957, Stan began farming the Hoye family farm near Inkster. Stan and Joann farmed together for close to 40 years. Stan continued working for area farmers long after his retirement. Stanley drove school bus for Midway Public School for many years. He also loved to drive for the many activities his daughters participated in while they were in school. He was an avid golfer, continuing to golf until this last year. He loved attending all of the events that his grandchildren and great grandchildren participated in.
Stanley was on the Strabane Township Board and Inkster Cemetery Association for many years. He was a life-long member of Faith Lutheran Church of Inkster.
Stan is survived by his wife Joann; three daughters and their families: Karen David (Bob), Mandy Groven (Jeff), Cooper and Chloe; Kathy Klava (Bill), Jerod Klava (Jennifer), Wyatt and Emmy; Brent Klava; Kim Yon (Jeff), Tavia Chapa (Mike), Grenier, Ryder, Kaleena Hopkins (Nathan) , Tyerney, Orrin and Jude, Brandy Wasick (Luke) Lexis, Michael, Mathis, Annie Christianson, Shalana Brueckner (Brandon) Elle’, Tucker and Bradon, Neveah Yon. Sister and spouse Marg Wiester (Don); brother-in-law: Wade Moffett, sister-in-law: LaVaugn Moreland; sister-in-law: Adele Genow.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister: Verna Moffett; brothers: Duane Moreland, Melvin Moreland and brothers and spouses: Russell (Jan) Moreland and Elwin (Shirley) Moreland; brother-in-law: Orward Hoye; nephew: Donald Moffett, Niece: Debra Genow.
IN LIEU OF FLOWERS: Memorials may be given to Faith Lutheran Church or Altru Hospice.
FUNERAL SERVICES: 10:30 a.m. Monday, February 20, 2017 at Faith Lutheran Church in Inkster, ND.
MILITARY HONORS: Forest River American Legion Post 251.
VISITATION: Sunday, February 19 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. with a 7 p.m. prayer service held in the Bakke Funeral Home of Larimore, ND. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to the funeral in the church on Monday.
INTERMENT: Inkster Cemetery, Inkster, ND.
