Steven Maloy Snyder, age 67 of Arvilla, ND, passed away Sunday, January 5, 2020, at Northwood Deaconess Health Center after months of failing health due to complications from brain cancer and infection.
Steve was born April 22, 1952 at Bremerton, WA, the son of William and Marianne (Beaver) Snyder. He moved with his family to Arvilla at the age of 10. He graduated from Larimore High School in 1970. Steve met his future wife, Barb Behm, at the Turtle River State Park Villa Vista Ski Resort and were married October 5, 1973. They lived north of Arvilla where they raised their family.
Steve worked at the North Dakota State Highway Department until 1975 when he began working for Dan Gonsorowski with Dan’s Excavating. In 1994, Steve and Barb bought the business from Dan when he retired.
Steve enjoyed life and lived it to the fullest. He looked forward to his annual Lake of the Woods fishing trip, deer camp, smoking meat, and weekly taco Tuesdays. Steve and Barb loved to travel and golfed at more than 100 different golf courses around the world, including Japan, Hawaii, Mexico, several Caribbean Islands, and Larimore. This summer, his most recent bucket list check-offs were a halibut fishing trip in Alaska and going to a Minnesota Twins game with all three of his boys.
Steve was active in the community. He served on the Larimore Golf Course Board and Arvilla Cemetery Board, St. Andrew Lutheran Church elder, President of the Larimore Bowling League, and Scout Master for the Larimore Boy Scout Troop 25.
Surviving members of his family include his wife Barb; children Tony (Brittany) Snyder, Craig (Cathy) Snyder, Chris (Melissa) Snyder; 10 grandkids Katie, Jace, Rylan, Austin, Ethan, Christian, Landon, Mason, Hudson, Finn; his mother Marianne Snyder; sister Joan (Dewey) Temple; mother-in-law Gertie Behm; brothers-in-law Chuck (Cam) Behm, Larry (Colleen) Behm, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Bill Snyder, brothers Dave and Terry Snyder, father-in-law Gene Behm, step-father Warren Snyder.
The family would like to especially thank the staffs at the Northwood Deaconess Health Center, Altru Rehab, and Sanford ICU and to all the friends and family for their prayers, support, and numerous visits these past 5 months.
FUNERAL SERVICES: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 11, 2020 at St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Niagara, ND.
VISITATION: One hour prior to the funeral in the church Saturday.
INTERMENT: St. Andrew Lutheran Cemetery, near Niagara, ND.
