Thomas "Tom" Lietz

Thomas Lietz, age 81, was born May 1, 1936 in Devils Lake, ND the son of John and Edith (Thomas) Lietz. Raised in Bagley, Mn, youngest of 10 children. He moved backed to Devils Lake and met his bride, Clarice Verschure. They were married June 18, 1954 and have 2 children. They lived in many small North Dakota towns before settling in rural Inkster in 1970.

Tom loved his animals, he raised many chickens, pigs, and horses. Dogs were his favorite and had many over the years. One of his other enjoyable hobbies was wood working.

Employed as a heavy equipment operator (primarily dozer) and mechanic for highway contractors: Roy Scheffler Inc and Bradshaw Gravel (Strata), started an owner/operator trucking business and retired while working with Grand Forks County maintenance in 2002.

Due to health conditions for both, Tom and Clarice moved into Northwood Deaconess Nursing Home within months of each other. Here is where Tom passed away, Friday April 27, 2018.

Survived by daughter Candise (Bill) Best, son Dwight (Tuffy) Lietz; 8 grandchildren: Lola, Stephanie, William (BJ), Fawn, Cassandra, Hunter, Gunner, and Stanley; 3 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Preceeding Tom in death is wife Clarice, his parents, 3 brothers: Ted, Charles (Bud) and Johnny, 7 sisters: Sis, Jenny, Reenie, Mary, Alice, Ida, and Grace.

Memorial/Prayer service will be held 2pm Saturday, May 5th 2018 in the Northwood Nursing Home with Chaplain Dean Lyste officiating.

Honorary Pallbearers will be all Tom's loving family and caring friends.

**In lieu of flowers or cards, family asks memorials be sent to Northwood Nursing Home and Grand Forks Circle of Friends Humane Society.
